Health – Overview
A New & Healthy You!
To support and consolidate your acupuncture treatments to sustain good health into your future, you need to assess and address your diet, your exercise and your sleeping habits. I will give you advice in these area, but read on to get you started.
“If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got”
If when you look in the mirror, you are not happy with the state of your health, whatever you’re doing isn’t working. It’s time for change
The most effective areas to invest in your future health are:
- Diet -There are many common symptoms which result from a nutritional deficiency and we get prescription medication where we could use food to begin with. Any supplement or prescription medication should be prescribed and taken to address specific biochemical imbalance. As we have limited access to labs to test at such a cellular level we need to listen to our bodies. If something makes you feel unwell – your body doesn’t like it; if some food or medicine gives you nausea, indigestion, heartburn or hiccups – your body doesn’t like it.
When making changes to diet, it should be a lifestyle change not a ‘fad diet’, as these can be difficult to follow and stick to, ending in disappointment and defeat. Instead of adapting yourself to a diet, you should adapt the diet to suit you. Your constitution will determine what foods suit you best and what are contributing to your dis-ease; you simply include those which benefit you and find alternatives to those that don’t.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
- Exercise – Exercise has many benefits, in particular it benefits Cardiovascular Health, Lymphatic System (cellular waste disposal), promotes circulation & generates heat.
Exercise is the most potent and underutilised antidepressant & it’s free!
‘What do you do for yourself?’, a reasonable question; and if you’ve ever flown on an aircraft and watch the cabin crew carry out the safety demonstration, you’ll have heard them instruct that if cabin pressure drops put the oxygen mask on yourself first, before you attend to others’ – It’s good advice because you won’t be any good to anybody else if you’ve passed out. You owe it to yourself and your family to be in your optimum state of health.
If you wouldn’t put it in your mouth don’t put it on your skin.
After all, your skin is the LARGEST organ in your entire body. What you put on your skin gets absorbed right into your bloodstream where it can either do damage or good. Your liver has to process it all. Your liver is much like your oil filter in your car, which is changed every 6,000 miles; our livers don’t ever get that kind of consideration or attention!
Sometimes we need to medicate but we should always be paying close attention and question: what are my symptoms? why have I these symptoms? what can I do to address the cause of these symptoms? am I addressing the cause to prevent future recurrence or am I sticking a plaster over it by taking the quick-fix pill and not dealing with the root-cause? The plaster fix is like putting black tape over the oil light in your car. It may mask the problem but it’s still there.
If not addressing the root cause it is palliative care.
